Frequently Asked Questions

How are your doctors different from other doctors?
Our board-certified doctors undergo medical training that integrates elements of several disciplines including neurology, rheumatology, orthopedics and musculoskeletal care. We explore all treatment options through a team approach, with experts of various backgrounds.
What is Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation?
PM&R is a medical specialty dedicated to restoring or maximizing function and self-sufficiency. We treat our patients’ entire body, investigating how symptoms may be the result of larger issues. Our care plans integrate several medical disciplines to help patients regain independence.
How do your physicians diagnose?

Our doctors’ diagnostic tools are the same as those used by other physicians, such as exams and specialty tests. We also use assessment tools and techniques like electromyography and nerve conduction studies. These methods help doctors diagnose conditions that cause pain, weakness and numbness.

What sort of treatment does Siskin Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation offer?

We offer a variety of medical services designed specifically for each individual. Our doctors may prescribe medication, spinal injections, electrotherapy, therapeutic exercises or a combination of all these treatments. After a thorough evaluation, your physician will explain your comprehensive treatment plan in detail.

What does a Physiatrist do?

Physiatrists work to restore or maximize functional skills, self-sufficiency and mobility of people with temporary or permanent disabilities. These disabilities may range from minor sports injuries to more complex conditions such as paraplegia. As board-certified physicians, they complete a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residency, specializing in nerve and muscle function, physical exam techniques, biomechanics, limb braces, prosthetics and pain management.

What kind of results can someone expect from Siskin Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation?
Since it is our goal to restore our patients to maximum function, the difference we make can be dramatic. By identifying the problem early on and prescribing the appropriate treatment, we can help our patients return to living a healthy life.
Do I need a doctor’s referral to receive treatment from Siskin Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation?
You do not need a doctor’s referral for access to many of our services. However, a doctor’s referral gives us access to your medical history and records, which will aid in developing your comprehensive care plan. Our pain management services do require a doctor referral.
